Installation Notes

The following information supplements installation instructions in the online help.

These notes cover installation on Microsoft Windows operating systems. Additional release notes are provided for each supported Unix operating system.

Microsoft Windows

These notes cover installation on Microsoft Windows operating systems.

Administrator Rights

Installation requires administrator rights.

License File

Data Integrator uses a license file with an .slc file extension to enable product features. You can obtain this file from your sales representative or by registering at the Pervasive web site to download it using the License Manager application installed with the integration platform. To enable more features, contact your sales representative.

System Requirements

For best performance, your computer needs physical memory to meet the requirements of the operating system and all applications.

Dual Video Card and Title Bar Settings

If you have a dual video card, disable all title bar settings on the card before running Data Integrator.

Microsoft CRM Connector .dll File Registration

The Data Integrator installer automatically registers Microsoft CRM .dll files for the following .NET Framework versions:

To verify, select the Microsoft CRM entry in Add/Remove Programs or look in C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework.

If you have .NET Framework versions other than one of the versions listed above, you must register the Microsoft CRM .dll files manually using the following steps:

To manually register the .dll file for MS CRM 1.2

  1. Locate the latest version of .NET Framework.
  2. Locate the file regasm.exe. It should be in the path environment variable or called with an absolute path.
  3. Locate DJMsCrmComObj.dll in the InstallDir\Common folder. To register it, open a command prompt, change directory to this folder, and type the following:
  4. regasm.exe DjMsCrmComObj.dll /tlb /codebase

  5. From Microsoft, obtain the following .dll files and copy them to InstallDir\Common.
    • Microsoft.Crm.Platform.Types.dll
    • Microsoft.Crm.Platform.Proxy.dll

To manually register the .dll file for MS CRM 3.0

  1. Locate the latest version of .NET Framework.
  2. Locate the file regasm.exe. It should be in the path environment variable or called with an absolute path.
  3. Locate DJMsCrmComObj3.dll in the InstallDir\Common folder. To register it, open a command prompt, change directory to this folder, and type the following:
  4. regasm.exe DjMsCrmComObj3.dll /tlb /codebase

Installing

In order to perform the installation, you must have administrator rights on the computer where the program will be installed. If you do not currently have those rights, contact your support area for assistance.

Note  For instructions on upgrading from 7.x or 8.x, see the online help. For instructions on upgrading from 9.x, see Upgrading in this readme file.

To install the product

  1. Log on to the Windows machine where you wish to install the product.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • If you are installing from a CD, insert the installation CD. If it does not automatically play, then select Start 4 Run, enter the path name to DataIntegrator9.exe in the CD root directory, and click OK.
    • If you downloaded the installation files from the web site, navigate to the installation files and double-click DataIntegrator9.exe.
  3. Follow the instructions given by the installation wizard. You are given two installation options:
    • Design Studio (default) — To install the designers, browsers, utilities, and Integration Engine, accept this default setting.
    • Integration Engine — To install Integration Engine and its utilities only, select this option. Note that your memory and storage requirements may be somewhat less than for a full installation.
  4. At the end of the installation, click Finish. The setup has created a new group of program shortcuts under Start > Programs.
  5. The installation creates detailed log files for each major portion of the install, such as connectors and documentation. The log files are located in the InstallDir\Cosmos9\InstallLogs directory. Log files under 15 KB generally indicate a problem with the installation.

Note  To install the Integration Engine on a server, see the online help.

Upgrading

You can upgrade your integration platform from 7.x, 8.x, or 9.x. To upgrade from 7.x, you must temporarily install 8.14. For step-by-step instructions on upgrading from 7.x or from 8.x, see the online help. To upgrade from 9.x, complete the following procedure.

Side-by-Side Installation: Data Integrator 9.0.3 can be installed on the same machine with version 8.x. Side-by-side installation works for both Design Studio and engine-only environments. For instructions, see the upgrading topic in the online help.

Note  Data Integrator 9.0.3 cannot be run side-by-side with other 9.x versions. Instead, upgrade the older version to 9.0.3.

To upgrade to 9.0.3

  1. Remove Data Integrator 9.x using Windows Add and Remove Programs.
  2. Install Data Integrator 9.0.3. See Installing in this readme file.
  3. Note  You may want to back up your repositories before removing 9.x. However, after installation, 9.0.3 will automatically use your existing repositories.

Known Issues

The following information describes known issues in the current release.

CR
Description
32257
Issue: On Windows Vista, when the user opens a file from Repository Explorer, such as .map.xml, Vista minimizes the application window in the task bar. Microsoft may resolve this issue in future Vista releases.
Solution: Click the item in the task bar to display the open window.
Issue: Removing the 9.x version of the product from a side-by-side installation disables context-senstive help in the remaining 8.x version. Help topics can still be opened manually.
Solution: Manually reregister the keyhelp.ocx file. Open a command prompt in C:\Windows\system and run the following:
regsvr32 /i keyhelp.ocx
